SERVICE STRUCTURE AND SUPPORT
- Since September 2005, service restructured to
provide locality based SLT input to the majority of the
paediatric caseload
- 7 zone teams across Middlesbrough and Redcar and
Cleveland with therapist and assistant input and admin
and clerical support
- The level of input varies from zone to zone
according to need and population but averages at 1.2
SLT time and 1.5 SLTA time
- SLT support in each zone covers the mainstream
caseload including support to children under specialist
supervision and support to children with a statement of
SEN included in mainstream schools
- SLT is offered in localities into schools and
nurseries and also through home visits
- Training is a focus of input in order to allow
schools to offer optimum support to children with
delayed language where direct input may not be most
effective
- In addition, each specialist SLT provides surgery
time and direct input according to need into each zone.
This enables generalist staff and assistants to develop
skills and have the opportunity to shadow specialist
colleagues and provide support to these client groups
with specialist support
- SLT teams also work into special schools and units
and we have opportunities for staff development with
specialist supervision in these settings
- Main base where our admin and clerical team are
located as are the clinical management team (CMT) - the
professional lead and clinical co-ordinators
- CMT meets fortnightly and each locality team and
specialist team are represented by one of the
co-ordinators to ensure that good practise and issues
are discussed and shared
- Zone leads meet half termly with the professional
lead to share good practise and any concerns and this
is fed back to CMT and also to the zone teams
- The service has an electronic patient record system
which is used to make appointments and record contacts
across the service
